Along with Noah's cerebral palsy comes some communication problems and speech delays. Sometimes it can be so frustrating for all of us!! When Noah began learning sign language ( or ASL which means American Sign Language), it was a way for him to finally talk to his family!! And he LOVES being able to sign and is constantly learning new words.  Because some of the signs require fine motor skills, Noah adapts them to what he can do. On this page - we want to share Noah's favorite signs as well as some ASL links!

"Love"

This was the first sign Noah could independently sign by himself. When he first learned to sign it, he was so proud and would sign it constantly!!

This is the word "love" signed. The hands hug over the heart to indicate the concept of love.

This is Noah signing the word "love."
This is a popular sign that most people have seen before. This is the universal sign for "I love you."

"More"

Noah uses this sign a lot!!

The hands come together in a manner that indicates things being added to a pile.

This is Noah signing "more" roller coaster!

"Dog"

Since dogs are Noah's favorite animal, he signs this a lot too!!

One hand pats the lap and snaps the fingers as if calling your dog.

This is Noah signing dog.  He only pats his hand to his leg and eliminates the snapping part.

"Eat"

One hand places food in the mouth.

This is Noah signing eat.

"Computer"

The thumb of the right 'C' hand is placed on the back of the left hand and moves up the left arm in an arc.

This is Noah signing computer with Grandaddeee.

"Sleepy"

The palm is facing the face and is then pulled down and closes to represent the eyes closing. The head pulls down to further emphasize that a person is sleeping.

Noah signs sleep.

"Phone"

phoneHold a hand signing "y" to the ear like you would hold a phone receiver to your ear.

Noah is signing phone in this picture. He eliminates the "y" part and just makes a fist that he holds to his ear when he hears a phone ring or wants to call someone. Noah LOVES the phone.
